The Hemingwrite is a Must Have for Every Writer

I actually discovered the Hemingwrite a little while back. Probably like six weeks or so. Let me tell you about it.

Simply put, it’s a modern day typewriter! Seriously. And y’all know how I really want one of those. The Hemingwrite is smaller than an old typewriter and has a much more user-friendly feel to it. Think of a computer keyboard with a small screen and NO DISTRACTIONS! I mean, there isn’t a writer out there who hasn’t had a million distractions when trying to write. Sure not all of those are from Facebook or Twitter or WordPress or Google, but MANY of them are!

That’s why this product is a must have. You don’t have to deal with any of that. Your documents automatically back up to Google Docs or Evernote, so you can write a rough draft of something and then do some editing on your computer or laptop.

What the heck more do I have to tell you?! You should be speed reading at this point because how could you not want this. Let me tell you how to get your hands on this bad boy. They just very recently began a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising $250,000. I looked earlier this morning and it was at $63,000. I just looked again and it’s at $134,000. They still have more than a month left in the campaign. Guys, this is something you’re going to want. I’m already setting my plans for my writing next year and I know I want this.

They’re aiming for a September 2015 release.

Check out the Kickstarter project here that has way more information about the Hemingwrite and see if it’s something you might want to back.

  1. This is rather cool. A little more bulky than I would want. And it would be nice if it wasn’t compatible to just Evernote or Google Docs, since I don’t use either… But still rather nice. I wish Microsoft Surface came out with just an inexpensive tablet with the keyboard that had a word processing program on it like Dark Room or something. Not that I need something like this to travel everywhere with me. Gads, I take enough notebooks and fountain pens with me wherever I go!

      • From CNet download :”The freeware Windows app Dark Room, based off the Mac software WriteRoom, looks a heck of a lot like the classic text-adventure game Zork. It’s a black background with a CRT-style green foreground color for your text that aims to offer a distraction-free application for writing. There are few bells and no whistles: this lightweight text editor is without buttons, menus, or anything else that might disturb your concentration.”
That is what Dark Room is. I find it rather relaxing to type on it since I can make it any color I want. It’s rather nice. I hate just black and white so sometimes I have a lilac hue, or black with orange typeface. It’s cool. Try it. (though I can still get easily distracted with the escape button taking me back to my desktop. 😛

  2. That looks PERFECT. *zooms to Kickstarter* They used to make similar word processor things, but that company went under. So, used ones are really pricy. It’s nice to see this technology making a comeback. I love how portable it is, how it has auto backup, and noooo distractions.

  3. Is there a USB port on it, say, to connect it to an external hard drive? This might be tin-foil paranoia but I wouldn’t important drafts being saved to Google.
