Fiction. Non-fiction. Sometimes there’s even a bit of mystery involved. I really don’t. Which is a little odd when you think of the fact that I can only be described as being obsessed with sports. But there are a few that I’ve wanted to read for some time now. Friday Night Lights is probably right at the top of that list. You know, the book that the great, great movie was based off of.
Now that I’m sitting here thinking about it, that might be the only one. Interesting. One would expect me to have a list a lot longer than one, right? Especially with the number of athletes who have “written” their own books. I might not be a fan of those particular types of books, but most are simply biographies.
I’ve only read a couple of sports books off the top of my head, which is surprising. But that’s just how things happen sometimes. What about you? Do you read sports books? Biographies. Fiction. No-fiction.
PS: this post was written to coincide with today being MLB Opening Night!
On this day in 2014 I published Saturday Selects: Blogging amidst your social media.
“Into Thin Air” by John Krakauer is a book I could not put down. It is about an ill fated Mount Everest trek that had people die and some terribly injured. It is a riveting look at the world of mountain climbing and the dangers of commercializing Mount Everest.

Hm. I think Moneyball is my favorite. At least that I’ve read.

Hi John: I’m a Canadian poet and didn’t pay too much attention to sports until I was challenged to write some sports-themed poems. Who would have known that four years later that a traditional publisher would fall in love with those poems and publish a full-collection of them? Sometimes it pays to accept a challenge and think outside the box. Wishing you much success with your writing career. 🙂

I can’t remember any specific books I’ve read on sports. Books with sports in them, sure, but not ones based solely on sports. The only one that’s on my TBR list is “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game” by Michael Lewis. The book the movie “The Blind Side” is based on.

Michael Lewis doesn’t write bad books. Ever.

I’ll have to move that up my TBR list.

You read a book an hour. You’ll get to it soon.

Hahaha!!! Not quite THAT fast. Unless it’s a 100 page book. Then…yes, I’ll read it in an hour. I think I’m somewhere on book 35-40 already this year. Woot!

How have you read so many books already!?

No idea. Some are short, some are long, some literally keep me up at night. I think I’ve slept less the past few months. Also, since starting my new job with the travel company, I don’t have as many commitments as I did when I lived in one place. So I’m free to spend my time reading and writing as much as I can!

Oh. I’d have thought having to move would give you less time to read or write. You’re just a superstar.

Well, I don’t have furniture with me or anything. Just clothes and books and random stuff I need for work and life and such. I’m looking forward to the drive out to Washington. I don’t normally like audio books, but I’m hoping to get a few more books under my belt that way during the 35 HOUR DRIVE! GAH!

35 hour drive!? Holy crap. Where the heck are you driving from?

The northern part of the lower peninsula of Michigan. Confusing, right?

And you’re going to Washington state or to DC? Have you heard of airplanes? They fly really fast, ya know?

State. But I’ll be there for at least 3-4 months, so everything I’d need wouldn’t fit in my luggage. Plus, I’d need a car. I don’t know if my travel company would pay for a rental car for that long.

Hmmm. Okay. Random thought: we once drove from Michigan to Texas in a single day. I think it was 16 hours.

My uncle has done that. From northern Michigan, it’d probably be closer to 20 hours. I Google mapped it and it said 1 day, 11 hours to my destination, which is the farthest northern corner of Washington.

Well hopefully you get some nice audio books going. Or XM.
