Are There More Harry Potter Books on the way?

J.K. Rowling says no, BUT not never. Kinda.

She was recently interviewed by Matt Lauer and he asked her if she’s secretly been working on the eighth book in the series. She said no. So then he asked her if she would write another one in the future. This is where there’s a little hope. She said no. But did not go so far as to say that it will never happen. Because she created the world and might step back into it. *insert any emoji you want here*

Now I know what some of y’all are thinking. I haven’t even read the books she has written. Yeah, yeah. I haven’t. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of the series. I grew up with Harry Potter just like you did (some of you). So I’m not going to act like I’m less of a fan or something. You can think it. You can say it. Doesn’t make any difference to me. If J.K. Rowling ever decides to add to the story of Harry, Ron, and Hermione…I will be excited. Period.

What do you think? Think she’s just playing games or that she might actually return to the series? I…don’t know. I don’t think she has anything to gain from adding to a series that was pretty definitively finished.

On this day in 2014 I published Shelfie: Finally Organizing my Bookshelf.

  1. I’d rather have an 8th book about Harry’s parents and their friends, than about Harry and his friends. JKR, if you -ever- decide to write that book, please, write more about Sirius Black – my fictional crush when I was 13- 😀

  2. Personally, I wonder if she hasn’t decided herself whether she wants to write more books. I would love to see a series about Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione’s children and their adventures at Hogwarts. I also know the struggle between wanting to continue a story and wanting to leave well enough alone.

  3. I’ve asked myself the same question when I heard about the possibility of more books. I’m torn. There is a part of me that would love to know more about the world that the famous trio are from, but the problem is just that. I want to know more about their world. I am not sure how I would feel reading a story about the world their children grow up in. I’m worried that it wouldn’t live up to the first stories I read and loved. I am torn still.

  4. J.K. Rowling is obviously a talented writer with a massive imagination, but I’m satisfied with how things ended. One of the best parts of being a reader is using your own imagination to fill in any gaps. Now, I’m usually a sucker for an awesome epilogue, but not in this case. The series was fabulous, but I don’t think she needs to supply more info. She’s given so many tidbits out in interviews and websites and videos and such, I think I’m perfectly satisfied with how things are.

  5. I think she could write another series with the Harry crew as adults and their children being in Hogwarts. And I, too, am obsessed with the Hunger Games. With both of those series the movies were almost as good as the books. I think the Hunger Games movies are weaving away a little. But I’m assuming they have no choice but to choose one or two story threads. Nice post.

  6. I haven’t read the Harry Potter books, but enjoyed the films. LOTR is my favourite – I actually read the Hobbit while I was in high school 🙂
