Before I saw the top 20 list I’d have said *gulp* Go Set a Watchman. I have been very open about being against just about everything this book stands for. But in the back of my mind I’m still thinking of those million books sold the first week. Not too many books doing that. So even with all my reservations about ever reading the book, I’d still have guessed that.
But it was only #3. Here’s the top 20:

When I read through the list I see no surprises. This may be because I’ve been working in a bookstore for four months, but even I hadn’t I’d still not be surprised by any of these. There are some books that we cannot keep in stock at the store. We’ll get a copy or two of something and they’ll be gone in a day or two. Sometimes this happens with older books, but most often I’ve seen it with newer releases. Which is understandable.
Did the bestselling book of the year on Amazon surprise you at all? Or any others from the top 20?

I have been stashed away doing NaNo and #amediting now so I have only heard of two of those books.
I know, simply crazy.
I don’t think any of them are on my tbr lists either. I have several.
I fool myself with saying these are next tbr then this pile but each pile expands like I’ve given it miracle grow. So I never make a dent in any one pile.

Really? I know 17. And I’ve seen most sell pretty well. I’m actually going to be reading Michael Connelly’s The Crossing fairly soon. I only have one shelf for TBRs.

I haven’t read any of them. Although I did download Girl on the train but never got around to actually reading it before it auto returned to the library.

Hmm. I also haven’t read it. But it came out in January and it’s a book we can’t keep on the shelf.

What sells isn’t always what lasts. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn, one of those books that I have read and reread is relatively obscure but it puts up new insights with each reading. The good stuff finds it’s audience when the popular stuff ends up in charity shops and attics. I’d love to work in a bookshop, it must be great to see how people are around books.

I guess. Though there are a few authors from this list who write quite well and sell well. There’s nothing wrong with being popular.

This is probably book snobbish of me, but I’m just glad Grey wasn’t number one. The others make sense to me. The Girl on the Train deserves the top slot.
