I’m not a fan of the holiday season at all, but there are some classic holiday movies I simply love. Home Alone is probably the one everyone thinks of, and it’s high on my list, but there’s at least one movie that sits above it. Can you guess it?
No. Probably not.
The Nightmare Before Christmas.
I’m not a fan of Tim Burton, but this movie is just perfect. Better than any of his more recent work, in my opinion. There are a few other holiday movies I find enjoyable, but this one is my all-time favorite. Easily.
What’s your favorite holiday movie?
Have a nice day off work today.
*turns on the movie now*
Die Hard, followed by American Psycho and Gremlins.

American Psycho? Wait, what?

I’m sure there’s at least one scene that takes place during the Christmas season in the film…pretty sure, anyway. Like, at least 51% sure.

Hahaha I guess that makes it a Christmas movie then.

Lethal Weapon ranks up there, with Die Hard.

It probably won’t surprise you that I’ve never seen either one. Welp. Didn’t even know they were holiday movies.

I actually watch The Nightmare Before Christmas a couple days ago. I agree, it is a excellent movie and I didn’t realize it until I watched it π

You’d never seen it!?

Actually I first saw the movie when I was a child, and I only watched it once. A few days ago was the first time I’ve seen it in many years. It was like I was watching a new movie because I’ve forgotten the storyline π

I’ve never seen Gremlins or even heard of the St. Louis one. π³

A great choice for a Christmas movie – we watch ‘Nightmare’ pretty much every year (though as my other half is an animator, I think we’re a bit biased when it comes to animations – we own a lot!)
Other family traditions in this house – Muppet Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s a Wonderful Life is rather sentimental, I guess, a bit old fashioned – but there’s nothing like the moment when James Stewart is up against it, he’s seen how awful Bedford Falls would’ve been without him, he’s standing on the bridge, crying ‘Please let me live again!’ into the darkness.
Redemptive, heartfelt – Fantastic!

Hmm. I think that might be my dad’s favorite. But I’ve honestly never watched it all the way through. I only remember bits and pieces.

Probably a bit cheesey and sentimental for today’s tastes – and black and white, of course, which I know many people won’t watch. Still very Christmassy, though π

Yes. Black and white movies are like vinyl records to me. I don’t know why people still like. Oh well.

Many black and white films are inevitably a bit dated – the acting, the dialogue, the story lines. But not all should be written off. And music specialists reckon vinyl recordings have a quality digital ones can’t capture – depth of tone etc. Or so I’m told π

I’ve heard the same about vinyls. But I’ve actually never heard one. Or a record player actually set up.

They do sound scratchy, though – something that puts a lot of people off. Worth listening out for, though to be hoenst, they are much less convenient than downloads.

I actually don’t buy music at all. No CDs. No MP3s. Nothing. I just listen to the radio.

I didn’t watch The Nightmare Before Christmas until last Christmas, I’m so late to the party. I love it and I’m gutted I didn’t see it sooner!

Now you just have to see it again and again. π

Haha, the hardship! Sadly it’s not on Netflix so I need to buy it on DVD, but then I’ll have it forever! π
