Adult Coloring Books are More Than a Fad

I’ve written about these little guys multiple times on here, but there’s always more to tell. Last summer adult coloring books really took off. Johanna Basford’s two books are typically noted as having led the way. Then just about every major publisher and brand arranged to release their own. I’ve seen Disney princesses, Game of ThronesFrozen, two of the four Potter ones, and more. It makes sense. These are still new to consumers. And every one of these popular series or brands has their own fan base.

I anticipate plenty of new ones being released in 2016. I mean, Disney releases popular movies every year. And there’s that whole Batman vs. Superman movie coming out soon.

Last year several of the top selling books on Amazon were coloring books. This year might add more.

What’s the most interesting adult coloring book you’ve come across?

More Harry Potter Coloring Books!

I’ve written about adult coloring books on here before, because they’re more popular than you can imagine. The original one came out last year and I’m certain the store was able to sell every single one of them. That doesn’t happen with too many books. It doesn’t happen with hardly any of them. But the Harry Potter coloring books were huge sellers. And now there are more to pick from.

I think I’ve seen three more books in what I guess I can call a series, right? And I bet someone somewhere is coming up with several more to add in the future. So I figure I might as well throw in an idea or two. I think they should release a coloring book that focuses entirely on Hermione. And then another one that focuses on quidditch. And maybe one that focuses on the Battle of Hogwarts. There. If Scholastic uses one of these ideas in the future I’ll sue for damages and make millions. Hehehe.

What do you think of more of these coloring books being released so soon after the original debuted? Also, is there a particular coloring book you’d like to see more than something else? The four are “Magical Creatures”, “Magical Places and Characters”, “Artifacts”, along with the original one. Only two of them have actually been released as of yet.

Coloring Books are Everywhere

I wrote earlier this week about Crayola on the verge of releasing their own adult coloring books. Now I have even more to share about those pesky little things.

They’re everywhere. They’re taking over everything. At my store there are quite a few. There’s a Frozen one. Disney princesses. Game of Thrones. Star Wars. Secret Garden. Lost Ocean. I’ve probably forgotten some. But it’s a little ridiculous. Not that we’re selling them, but that people are so fast to be a part of something trendy. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same people who do NaNo also buy these coloring books.

Crayola to Release Line of Adult Coloring Books

Actually, they’re releasing several. I don’t know about you, but there is only one brand I associate with coloring. Crayola. I guess there are other brands that make crayons, markers, and colored pencils; but I know none of them.

Which is why I’m not surprised at all to see them moving into adult coloring books. I’m sure the designs will be top notch and I already know there will be several to choose from.

This is a market that Crayola knows well. I’m sure we’ll see that fully on display once these books are made available.

Any thoughts on Crayola’s forthcoming adult coloring books?
