2017 Reading Challenge: A Wrinkle in Time

It’s Wednesday, which means today is video day!

My second read of 2017 is both a book for my 2017 Reading Challenge and also one of Amazon’s 100 Books Everyone Should Read.

This was the second time I tried reading this after it was a DNF in 2014? It was a DNF at some point. Anyway, it was the first book I’ve read that had time traveling elements. Though I do watch the TV show, Timeless. And anyone who doesn’t like Back to the Future is crazy. So I’m not exactly a time traveling virgin. Wait, what?

Moving on.

As always, tell me if you’ve read this book and what you thought of it! I bet we have differing opinions.

This book fulfilled the requirement to read a book about time travel. Two down, 23 to go!

2017 Reading Challenge: The Sun Also Rises

Would you look at that?! Look who’s off to a fine start to their 2017 reading! *raises hand*

Okay. I’m going to be completely honest. I read this book because it’s one of Amazon’s 100 books everyone should read, which y’all know by now that I’ve been slowly working my way through the list since it first came out almost three years ago. It was my first foray into the world that is Ernest Hemingway. I was so excited to read the book that I didn’t even bother to read the back of it before I started.

I could not have been more disappointed. I considered splitting my review in half between this post and the video, but I just couldn’t do it. When I went back and edited the video it was so obvious how frustrated and disgusted I became with parts of this book. I didn’t want to fail to convey those feelings through the written word. So, all of my thoughts are in the video.

I imagine many of you have already read this book, so I do want to tell you some of the things I discuss in the video.

  • The objectification of women in the book
  • The drinking habits of the characters
  • Bullfighting
  • The Jewish character
  • The overall writing style

ALL are discussed. I have extremely strong thoughts about every aspect of this book. As always, I encourage you to take a quick look at my reaction to my first Hemingway read. This book fulfilled the requirement to read a 20th century classic for my 2017 Reading Challenge.

Have you read The Sun Also Rises? What did you think of it?

One Last Bit of Twilight News

I wrote last week about the new book in the series in which the genders of most of the characters are swapped. Well I learned something else about the book.

I was bouncing around WordPress for a bit the other day and I came across a review. So I read it. It was not good. It appears that Meyer put in even less work than I expected. The text of the book appears to be the exact same. She didn’t actually rewrite anything. There were a few things that were changed because Meyer figured a guy would see them differently than a girl, but most of the text wasn’t.

I think it’s both arrogant and disrespectful. Because people are buying this book. But it’s not really anything new. Just some stupid names changed. I think I’m forever done discussing Stephenie Meyer after reading this. What do you think?

April Showers Bring More…Bloggers?

The month of April was rather terrific for me. I’m not all about site stats, but I enjoy having an audience and having particular bloggers return to my blog each day to see my new posts. It’s a wonderful feeling. AND Texas weather finally decided that it was done playing games with us. Plenty of days with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. Can you say spring? Anyway, why don’t I stop talking about the weather and talk about the month that was.

In April I broke my previous record for posts in a single month. The previous record was set in March with 22. And I also shattered my records for interaction from other bloggers. I mean, you’ll see the numbers in just a bit. This is why I love you all. Seriously, y’all have no idea. I tell people about y’all all the time. Here’s my breakdown for the month. The previous record will be in parenthesis.

OH MY GOODNESS! How are those numbers even possible?! I knew this month was better than March based on my interaction with you guys each day, but when I sat down and calculated everything I was blown away. I love you guys. I don’t care if we’ll never meet face-to-face, I do. 1092 comments!? What the heck are y’all doing on here? Are y’all spamming me? Ha. The hilarious part of that is that one person accounted for 10% of the comments for the month. She’s great. I love her the most. Okay, not really. Yes I do.

March: A review of my best blogging

I have to be honest here, down here in Texas March was a bit different from what we’ve come to expect. There were A LOT of cold days and not enough days with temperatures in the eighties. BUT I did a a lot of blogging! So all wasn’t lost.

March saw me write more posts than any previous month, just one more than February. And I had so much more interaction on my blog from my readers than ever before. Let me break it down some.

I’ve seen other bloggers recap previous months by detailing EVERY SINGLE POST from the previous month. I’m not going to do that this time around because I’m sure you’ve seen it too.

Also, February nearly doubled my previous best month in terms of site views and guess what happened in March?! The February number nearly tripled! It was quite exciting to see more people coming to my little slice of cyberspace. It was fun having you here. I sure hope you’ll stick around.

Tell me about your March. Whether it be blogging or reading or writing or college or just life stuff. I’d very much like to hear about it because you helped make my month wonderful.
