AKA the books I read this year.
Honestly, I’m not sure that “reading biography” is a thing that people say, but I saw it on another post and I’m stealing it. How about we make it catch on and then eventually everyone who reads this blog will be able to say they had a hand in a new tag/meme on WordPress. I can see it now.
“Hey guys, this is my reading biography. As started over at Write me a Book, John!”
Maybe? Anyway, this is going to be a much shorter post than I’d have hoped at the start of the year. I’m pretty sure you know by now that my goal each year is to read 50 books. I think it’s a nice round number that’s definitely attainable, considering I read 44 a couple years ago in just seven months. Guess how close I got? Just guess. I’ll wait.
Hurry up.
Okay. Time’s up. I read…seven books! SO close to my goal! Not. It was a terrible reading year. I mean, how can I even say I’m a reader with that kind of number? It’s really disappointing and there’s no explanation. I’m just a loser. Here’s the mediocre list anyway. And I’m even going to post the date I finished each one so you really get an idea how bad it really was.
1. Valediction (Spenser #11) – Robert B. Parker – January 1
2. The Diary of a Young Girl – Anne Frank – March 7
3. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter #1) – JK Rowling – March 13
4. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Roald Dahl – March 26
5. London Bridges (Alex Cross #10) – James Patterson – April 12
6. The Fault in our Stars – John Green – June 12
7. The Drop (Harry Bosch #15) – Michael Connelly – June 21

That’s it. That’s all there is to know from what I read in 2014. This means I’ve read a whopping 22 books since January 1, 2013! What am I doing!? No. 2015 will be better. I know it.
How was your 2014 reading year? It couldn’t have been any worse than mine.
I’m not much better… I’ve read 17. (If I can finish Water For Elephants before the end of the month) My goal was 52 books in 2014. Didn’t even get close. But I’m giving myself the same goal for 2015.

Nope. You’re not much better. I blame you. You talked to me too much this year and prevented me from reading more. 😂

I read 14 books and 37 short stories. This was my first year tracking my reading for the year, so I’m looking to up my goal for next year. 25 books and 10 short stories!

That’s a lot of short stories. Like…have I read that many ever? Haha I doubt it. Good luck next year!

The short stories were all assigned reading for a class, but I read enough of them that it deserved mentioning. Hopefully I can add one more book to my list for this year, and start 2015 off with some momentum!
Good luck to you too!

I read 54 out of my 75 reading goal… I had a hard time reading this year for some reason…

A hard time reading this year!? You’re crazy!

Can I count the books I couldn’t finish because they were so bad? If I can count those, I will have made my goal! Yay! (Actually, I have no goal, but I’m positive that I’ve read fewer books than you this year. And I have a reading blog. How awful is that?!?)

Haha you’re horrible! Less than seven? That’s unacceptable.

Well you beat me–I only read 6 books this year. To be honest my goal was 12 because I really wanted to make it easy to reach my goal. But the first half of the year was met with many distractions and it was only the last 4 months that I started reading more. However, I plan to not slack off and read more books–although I have not set a goal number yet 🙂

Whaaaat!? You’re the second one I beat. No. Read more. I’ll have to comment on your poems next year randomly asking about your reading. Haha

I plan to not disappoint. At worst, I should be able to reach at least 1 book a month 🙂

I have never counted the books I’ve read in a year but over a period of years the numbers would reveal my reading habits to be unpredictable. This year I’ve read six or seven books several times each. This is unusual for me. I’ve never read a novel twice and probably never will. I’ve never had a goal for books to read in a year. Something to think about. I will read when I want to entertain myself (fiction) or when I want to learn something (nonfiction). Blessings to you, John.

Hm. So you don’t reread, but you reread several books this year? Sounds like your preference somehow changed.
I definitely like tracking my reading. I know most people use Goodreads, but I use a Word document and Excel spreadsheet for every season and then combine them all into one spreadsheet at the end of the year. I like it.

If ikept a record, it would be on an Excel spreadsheet. I said I don’t retread novels. If you read a novel, you already know what will happen. I reread books that I learn from. Each time I read one of those, I absorb more. See the difference? I like novels, but I don’t reread them. I prefer mysteries and suspense. So you know how to use Excel. I’m impressed, John.

You’re not a loser! 😛 I won’t tell you how many books I read last year because you’ll only get mad at me. But it’s closing in on three digits. I don’t know how this year will go. I have a new job and that may affect my reading ability. I guess we’ll see…

Oh please. You’ll read 539 books.
