I know Amazon is what’s most dividing the country right now. *wink*
And now they’re becoming even more divisive. Up until now there were a couple of states Amazon was not collecting sales tax in because they didn’t have a physical presence, but no more! Amazon will begin collecting sales tax in every state with statewide sales tax. My reaction is IT’S ABOUT TIME!
Years ago when I first began my relationship with Amazon I paid no sales tax because the company had yet to expand into Texas. But those days ended long ago. As a result I try to buy from third party sellers as often as I can to avoid the sales tax. But honestly, I don’t even spend that much on the site. I’d say between $300-$500 a year. And even with that relatively low amount I still feel like I’m getting my money’s worth.
Are you feeling any kind of way about the sales tax
I wasn’t aware that they were not imposing sale tax for all states with statewide sale tax. I moved to OR about 7 years ago. It took me a while to get used to the idea of not having sales tax, but now it has become second nature. Although we are certainly reminded when tax season rolls around π

I’m not sure if you mean “imposing” or “collecting”. Businesses aren’t required to collect sales taxes if they don’t have a physical presence in the state. But Amazon’s expansion now has them (I think) in every state. At least the ones with statewide sales tax.

I believe you are right π The correct word would have been “collecting”. Since we have no statewide sales tax, I am guilty of forgetting about it and often unaware of what retailers are doing.

If people are freaking out about this, they need to calm the punk down. Taxes, in general, are part of life. Like you said, Amazon is still worth it, financially, for all the deals and discounts they have. I spend a fair amount on there every year. No regrets.
