J.K. Rowling says no, BUT not never. Kinda.
She was recently interviewed by Matt Lauer and he asked her if she’s secretly been working on the eighth book in the series. She said no. So then he asked her if she would write another one in the future. This is where there’s a little hope. She said no. But did not go so far as to say that it will never happen. Because she created the world and might step back into it. *insert any emoji you want here*
Now I know what some of y’all are thinking. I haven’t even read the books she has written. Yeah, yeah. I haven’t. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of the series. I grew up with Harry Potter just like you did (some of you). So I’m not going to act like I’m less of a fan or something. You can think it. You can say it. Doesn’t make any difference to me. If J.K. Rowling ever decides to add to the story of Harry, Ron, and Hermione…I will be excited. Period.
What do you think? Think she’s just playing games or that she might actually return to the series? I…don’t know. I don’t think she has anything to gain from adding to a series that was pretty definitively finished.
On this day in 2014 I published Shelfie: Finally Organizing my Bookshelf.

Interesting opinion! I’ve only read the first four, but my brother was (is) obsessed!

Haha I’m obsessed with The Hunger Games! Mostly Katniss. And Jennifer Lawrence. But I’ve only read the first two books of this series. I’ve of course seen all the movies.

I’d rather have an 8th book about Harry’s parents and their friends, than about Harry and his friends. JKR, if you -ever- decide to write that book, please, write more about Sirius Black – my fictional crush when I was 13- 😀

Sounds like you wouldn’t want just a continuation of their story, then.

Some of us didn’t grow up with the series. But our kids kinda did 🙂 So we are Potterheads too!

I resent your assertion that I have grown up.
I’d love to have another adventure in Potterland. Maybe learn about the next generation of Potters. I’d be first in line to read it!

Ha! I think I should finish the series before deciding whether I’d like to see more of Harry, Ron, and Hermione or their children.

Personally, I wonder if she hasn’t decided herself whether she wants to write more books. I would love to see a series about Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione’s children and their adventures at Hogwarts. I also know the struggle between wanting to continue a story and wanting to leave well enough alone.

What I took away from her interview is that she’s leaving open the possibility of returning to the series. But I don’t think she’s decided.

I’ve asked myself the same question when I heard about the possibility of more books. I’m torn. There is a part of me that would love to know more about the world that the famous trio are from, but the problem is just that. I want to know more about their world. I am not sure how I would feel reading a story about the world their children grow up in. I’m worried that it wouldn’t live up to the first stories I read and loved. I am torn still.

I don’t know if I have any leaning toward another story with them or something with their children. But I still have five books to read, anyway.

J.K. Rowling is obviously a talented writer with a massive imagination, but I’m satisfied with how things ended. One of the best parts of being a reader is using your own imagination to fill in any gaps. Now, I’m usually a sucker for an awesome epilogue, but not in this case. The series was fabulous, but I don’t think she needs to supply more info. She’s given so many tidbits out in interviews and websites and videos and such, I think I’m perfectly satisfied with how things are.

You wouldn’t want to read about their children? I think that’s what most other commenters would like to see.

I think she could write another series with the Harry crew as adults and their children being in Hogwarts. And I, too, am obsessed with the Hunger Games. With both of those series the movies were almost as good as the books. I think the Hunger Games movies are weaving away a little. But I’m assuming they have no choice but to choose one or two story threads. Nice post.

Yep. She could. But I don’t know if she should. I think the Potter and THG movies as as good as it gets as far as recent adaptations. Obviously not on par with LOTR, but none of them have been bad.

Yes, I was dragged kicking and screaming into LOTR, not know how the movie could possibly do justice to the books. But loved it.

I’ve only read part of the first book. And I saw the movies like seven years after their release. I had no expectations. But wow. Just wow.

Well, you’re talking to someone who doesn’t like to go to the movies much, and I saw Star Wars when in came out 7 times in the theater. Geek.

Oh. I think I’ve got you beat. I NEVER go to the movies. Once in 2014. Once in 2013. Both for The Hunger Games. And I couldn’t possibly go see a movie that many times.

I don’t think that I’ve been to the movies in 3 or 4 years. I have probably taken my grandson to one along the way, but I usually bow out of them. Star Wars was ground breaking for me. And this is coming from the gal who won’t watch GOT. I guess because Star Wars was the movie. GOT is about the books.

Hmmm. Well I won’t be going anymore after this last movie in November. I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars movies. Or Game of Thrones.
