Tell me you haven’t heard the news today? Or maybe yesterday? Mrs. Rowling announced that there are more wizarding schools than Hogwarts. And the best part of it is there’s likely one near you!
I can’t remember all the names at the moment, but there are two more in Europe. There’s one in North America. There’s one in South America. There’s one in Asia. And one in Africa. Which means there’s a school of magic for all regions of the world.
She also said the schools are generally located in mountainous regions, which leads me to wonder about the exact location of the North American school.
What do you think of there being more schools!? And where do you think the nearest one is to you? I think she said there are 11 more besides Hogwarts.
Pretty cool! Of course, we already knew there were other schools. Remember the Goblet of Fire had a competition between 3 European Schools.

I know! I wasn’t thinking of those. š

Is there a school in Australia?

Ooh. I read that one wasn’t mentioned specifically, but that there is one. I think? Might want to check out Pottermore to see for sure.

Does that mean more books?

I don’t think so. Not now. But there may be ore information on Pottermore.

I read about the different schools. I can’t wait to learn more. I hope the movie is going to be good!

Now I want a letter from the North American school. I still can’t remember the name. š I’ll have to look.

I knew there were. Durmstrang and the one in France were introduced in Goblet Of Fire.
As for where the one closest to me would be? Ummmm, Appalachian Mountains is the closest mountainous region, I think. At least mountains that are mountains instead of glorified ant hills, lol.

Ooh. You’re right. I guess I’d forgotten about those. I think the one in America would be somewhere without major population centers nearby. Which doesn’t really narrow it down much.

Lol, no it doesn’t. Unless it’s in the Northern part of Canada or in Alaska.
The Canadian Shield is pretty much uninhabited because the weather is so inhospitable.

Lol, I’ll take you’re word for it since my geography sucks!

I think Wyoming is a good place. Although I’m not sure about mountains. But definitely minimal population.

Lol. Yup, Population 584,000 +, home to Yellowstone National Park and the Rocky Mountains. At least according to their website.

It is. It would depend on which part of the Canadian Shield they wanted to use, here. The southern portion is very well populated (I live in part of the southern portion). The Northern portion is extremely cold with short summer days and cold nights and between the two it’s so rocky there is little to nothing there, so, for a floating school, or one which is invisible and magical it would be perfect :D.
It covers 1.8 million square kilometers (@386,102 square miles)

Oh geez. But then I couldn’t attend. I hate the cold. š³

That’s why we have space heaters, woolen socks, flannel jammies and robes! Not to mention: it makes snuggling in front of a warm fire with your honey, hot cocoa and a good book all the more attainable.

I believe she alluded to this some years ago. I know I’ve read it in the past, that there was, in fact, a school in America when she was questioned in an interview about other wizarding schools. It would have been incredibly short-sighted of her not to have schools in other areas of the world. And she is anything but short-sighted.

Oh. I’m sure. There isn’t anything she hasn’t thought of in regard to the series. But now there are names and somewhat specific locations known. So that’s cool.

Ah, yes! I did read the names of them, which I had not heard previously. Pretty funky and interesting.

Mountains, huh? I’d say probably in the Rocky Mountains on the East Coast of the USA. Not too many people there. Maybe in Western Canada? Who knows.

The Rockies? Hmmmm. Maybe. Or maybe in a state like Wyoming? Where there aren’t many people anywhere.

I’ve been to most of the mountain ranges in the USA… I think if there is a school in the states, it would be in the Olympic National Park somewhere. It is, by far, the most enchanting forest I’ve had the pleasure of hiking through.
